Windsheild Wipers A Flying

Well, I have done it. I have driven on the wrong side of the road. Surprisingly being on the wrong side of the road seemed to be the least of my worries...

In all fairness, I have not driven for over a month, so even driving seems a bit foreign to me. James has to park on an intense hill, and you have to keep the foot brake on, take the parking brake off, and then give it gas while you have your foot on the break to get it started. Well I did that all well and good, but I forgot to put the car in drive, that sure gave James a laugh, I just felt like an idiot. anyways I finally drove off the hill and was about to attempt my first left hand turn (like a right hand turn at home) so it should have not been that hard. I attempted to put the signal on to turn left and the windshield wipers went crazy. Those cheeky buggers went and put the windshield wiper controller where I needed the turn signal. I finally found the turn signal on the other side of the steering wheel (aka right hand side.) And I turned! Hooray, then I had to start merging. Being on the wrong side of the road was not the part that felt wrong. The part that felt wrong was where I am used to the car ending it goes onto a passenger side, and where I am used to the car being bigger it stops.... Thankfully James was patient and calm and would say things like, "tons of room on this side babe," or, "You're getting close, honey,...very close on this side." Halfway to the super market, and the windshield wipers were still on slowly, I finally got them off, then I made a right turn (left turn for U.S. readers) and even used the turn signal correctly, hooray! When I finally made it to the parking garage, I even parked successfully! Go me!

However, the excitement of driving sure tired me out and by the time we were done at the grocery store, I no longer had the energy to drive back, thankfully I had James. Man I have never felt so exhausted from a 10 block road trip before. I may lie down and have a nap now, I am getting tired just writing about it.

Left is Right and Right is Wrong

"Left is right and right is wrong," usually this saying is used to help guys get their ears pierced. Left is straight, right is gay. I may disagree with the latter part of the statement, but I digress, because that is not the point of my post.

Nope, I am not getting my ear pierced and I am also not encouraging James to get his pierced either. (However, I do encourage him to wear the eye patch and clip on earing I gave him when he has to go on duty of 'pirate watch'). Instead this is what I will be saying to myself when I attempt to drive. I think I may finally try this weekend, it may only be around the block or windy set of roads near James' house, but I think that merely climbing into the drivers seat might be a personal victory for me. I am definitely becoming more accustomed to looking right left right when crossing the street instead of the "Stop, Look (left-right-left), Listen" that was ingrained into our young minds. Also, the thought of their left turns being equivalent to our right turns and our right turns being equivalent to our left turns is starting to boggle my mind less and less each day. James says that it is very intuitive once you are sitting in the drivers seat, but we shall seat about that one, yes we will.

I will keep you updated about the actual adventure once it happens, but until then wish me luck :)

Have a nice yesterday, it is a nice tomorrow (a little cloudy, but it will do.)

Prrrrrr vs. The Ballet

Another day, another new experience. On Saturday a few friends, James, and I went to the footy game. Confused by footy? Well me too. No it is not soccer, they call that soccer, not futball. No, it is not American Football. The footy can be one of three slightly different things. Here they have three separate sports they refer to as the 'footy'. There is Rubgy League, Rugby Union, and Aussie Rules. The rugby ones are closest to American Football, but without pads, and in one they pick each other up. Aussie rules, I think is the most entertaining, and that is the type of game we went to. They play in a large oval and kick, throw, bounce it to each other to try to get it between the posts...so I don't confuse you too much I shall let you read the rules from someone who likely knows what they are talking about more than me:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_rules_football

The game we watched was the Sydney Swans, yes I said swans, vs the Geelong Cats, yes just cats not even tigers or leopards, just kitty cats, meow. Me and my friends tried unsuccessfully to explain to James why we thought the mascots were sooo silly. As many of you have figured out already, we all have such feminine references when it comes to those animals, that it is silly to see big burly guys playing for such femininely named teams, but at the same time these are the same big burly men wearing the short shorts.

Despite the masculine-feminine paradox, the game was fun. There was a good atmosphere, and it is fast paced. Also, the game was held at the Sydney Olympic park, so where they held the Olympic events I believe in 2000.

The moral of the story is that now I am curious as what would actually win betwen a common tabby cat and a swan? Thoughts? I look forward to hearing them yesterday :)
